The common telephone is a grand idea and has been used immensely. The ability to be able to communicate with another person far away while in your living room is amazing. This has taken the market by storm and the business world as well. They even use telephones for sales and other forms of soliciting and information. Cell phones are becoming more popular and are surpassing the popularity of the landline telephone.
The soon to be obsolete telephone has been replaced in many homes throughout the world by the cell phone. Why? Most people love having the newest technology on the market and people also like to have the ability to have something lightweight and small that fits in their pocket and is relatively easy to use. The biggest part of the reason is it is cheap and very flexible as far as pricing. You may be locked into a contract, but you control your pricing for the most part. There are plans out there where you do not have to have a contract and it might fit your needs better than paying the same lump sum whether you use your phone or not.
There are landline phone companies out there that make you pay a big flat fee even if you only make 25 calls a month or less on your phone. As previously stated, you can get a cell phone now with no contract and still pay ahead for your minutes and not have to pay again until you use those minutes. Now that is cheap and impressive! There are also plans out there for those who use their phone all the time. You can allow yourself so many minutes each month so you do not go over and still pay less then a landline. At the same time, the phone will be on you at all times and you can call anywhere.
Convenience is the biggest plus to having a cell phone. Convenience is the greatest commodity and time is what makes the world go around, so if we can save time and money and have something of use at our convenience, of course it will be popular. The landline telephone can not even compare to this. To top it all off, the cell phone has internet and other capabilities.
The best thing you could do over the phone with a landline is get stock reports and retrieve your voicemails, but with a cell phone your capabilities are just about endless. You can go on the internet get to your email for business purposes. That is just one convenience of the cell phone. I understand you can hook your landline up for dial-up access, but it costs a lot more and you have to buy a computer. Also, it ties up your phone and you cannot leave the house and still access the internet. So in the mix of things, the cell phone is a lot more popular and will likely cause the landline to go the way of the dinosaur.
